With so many solutions out there for managing your website, you may wonder “Why would I use WordPress as a CMS when it wasn’t intended to be so?” There is no doubt that Wordpress is primarily intended for blog development, but that’s not all it can do. There are many advantages to using WordPress over other content management systems, but on the other hand, there are also some instances where WordPress may not be the right fit. Please note that WordPress is not a fix-all, do-all solution, so your first task in making a CMS decision is to weigh the pros and cons of each platform.

Decisions, Decisions: Bada-Bing! or Trust Your Hunch

Bing may not prove a fierce competitor of Google, but how does it fare against fellow “decision engine” Hunch?

Microsoft fully launched Bing (which replaced Live Search), on June 3, 2009, following the release of a preview version on June 1, 2009. Its launch was accompanied by a global media frenzy, including a reported $100 million marketing and advertising campaign.

Lately, I’ve completed a lot of graphical work for Breastcancer.org, a client of ours that needs a lot of banners… so I design a lot of banners. Other projects include the design and front-end coding of the upcoming site for the Boulder Economic Council (a favorite project of mine since I love developing designs in XHTML and CSS), and designing layouts for two other upcoming sites: ShipYourBicycles.com and ShipYourAquatics.com.

Things I’ve Learned in 10+ Years of Web Development

I’ve been developing websites since 1998; I was there during the days of full-blown table-based layouts and have made the transition successfully — if I may toot my own horn — to CSS-based layouts. During a training session last week, I was reminiscing about table-based layouts and spacer GIFs. A co-worker chimed in — “Spacer GIF? What is that?!” As I wistfully explained it to him, I started thinking about all the things I have learned in my 10+ years in Web Development.
